Hummelstown Borough has convenient reach to the elementary and high schools for Lower Dauphin. Going to FTIG from Hummelstown, Hershey, Palmyra is somewhat reverse commuting. Lebanon is a relatively inconvenient area with only two lane roads going in and out. Also stores west, east, and south of Lebanon City. A secondary Target/Home Depot area is around the I-83/I-283/US 322 junction with a Walmart slightly east on 322, these are in Swatara Twp with Harrisburg postal address. Much more shopping around Paxtonia/Colonial Park areas of Lower Paxton Twp, or US 22 running east from I-83 for about four miles. East end of Palmyra has Walmart and Lowe's. Although FTIG has an Annville postal address the immediate environs are in Northern Lebanon school (Jonestown, Fredericksburg) mostly rural and smaller older communities not so much newer housing.īasic shopping is at west end of Hershey/east end of Hummelstown around Kmart. Annville and Cleona are smaller with mixed age housing grading to rural farms. Palmyra has many postwar to newer subdivisions for mostly Hershey commuters. Derry Township (generally Hershey and Hummelstown postal addresses) is the standard "good school" suburb recommendation where the Hershey Medical Center doctors live. Going outward from Harrisburg one would have the Harrisburg City schools which are not recommended by anyone Susquehanna Township (also with Harrisburg postal address) which is a diverse community economically and ethnically, subdivisions Depression era to new Central Dauphin in Lower Paxton and West Hanover Twps (mostly Harrisburg address still) which is the power center shopping hub and subdivisions postwar to new Lower Dauphin in South and East Hanover Twps (mixed postal addresses: Hummelstown, Grantville, Palmyra, Hershey even in the Village of Union Deposit) mixed newer subdivisions and rural, with older village housing stock in Hummelstown Borough itself and a number of locally owned stores.
